Dear Supporters,
On January 1, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., an earthquake centered in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture shook Wajima City and Shiga Town in Ishikawa Prefecture to a maximum magnitude of 7, causing extensive damage to a wide area. As far as we know, 306 temples of the sect suffered damage to buildings and civil engineering structures within their precincts.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the many international supporters who have responded to our call for assistance in the aftermath of this unprecedented disaster. Thanks to your generosity, the Sotoshu shumucho was able to collect 14,645,238 yen in donations from outside Japan. Currently, we are sending 3,000,000 yen each to temples that have suffered total or partial damage to their main halls, kuri and other important buildings, and 100,000 yen each to temples that have suffered damage in other ways.
More than half a year has passed since the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, and we will continue to support the reconstruction of temples that suffered total or partial damage. We ask for your continued support.
August, 2024
Sotoshu Shumucho
